I CHOOSE ADVENTURE – 8/20/18
Adventure is out there! We often say, “That was a great adventure story!” or “Wow, I wish I could go on adventures they like they do!”
Well, what’s stopping you? Life is full of adventures, and it doesn’t take escaping a dragon-guarded tower or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to have one. Every choice we make—and let’s face it, life is full of them—is the next chapter in our very own choose-your-own-adventure novel.
Unlike a book, life won’t let you re-read it, and it never lets you put a bookmark in and take a break; but it does offer the same excitement, suspense, and heart every good story provides. It is all in the way you look at things. If you look at life and think it to be mundane, slow, and uneventful, then I pity you. God created life to be a fast-paced, can’t-put-it-down, thrilling adventure in which we have the honor of starring! We are the main characters of our own stories and I think we should learn to act like it.
Every moment of every day is ours. We get to decide how our day goes: what we do, how we think, and what we say. And I say, why not adventure? It may be going somewhere new in your neighborhood; it may be cleaning out the fridge (yes, that is always an adventure); or it may be calling an old friend and catching up. Whatever you do with your day, make it yours—your adventure.
If we continue to think adventure is something only in fairy tales, we will end up being supporting characters in the grand scheme of things. We won’t have a good story to tell, but rather bits and pieces of others’ stories as we watch them live to their fullest. Personally, I don’t want to live life in the background. This is my story and God has written it out word for word. It is my job to step into that life and say, “I choose adventure.”
God has amazing things planned for each of us. Who are we to say that the life He planned isn’t adventurous? Knowing what I know of God, I’d say He has written us the greatest adventure of all. So, let the next choice you make be one that leads you towards adventure!
To Narnia or Neverland, to Middle Earth or Wonderland, adventure is waiting!
